But, I also stopped at the blue box store (Lowes) on the way home and bought a replacement puddle-sucker pump for the one that died last week, and got an additional dehumidifier. Dehumidifier is already running in the basement, Gotta check it in the morning to make sure the drain hose is working, and check to see if I'll need to suck up any new water in the basement from this storm.

I was tempted by their wet-vac that has a water pump built in for $119, but they were out of stock, and their inventory computer said that the status of more of them was "Processing".

Of course, now that I have bought a new pump, there will be no more water.

Fear not, the Sudbury River is supposed to hit above flood stage again.

It may not be in vain after all.

I'm not too worried about water from the sudbury river. I actually live in a separate flood drainage zone that eventually drains to the sudbury river several miles away and a many feet of elevation drop down.

The house is on a lot built on fill over a swamp, and the normal surface water table is about three feet below the floor of the basement. But since the swamp doesn't have a lot of land draining rainwater into it, in 40 years I have only seen the water level vary as much as six inches, usually far less. Right now the water level in the swamp is at normal spring high water level.

The rain has to raise the water level about three feet over about a square mile of swamp to get floodwater in the basement. And when my grandfather built the house, he made it in such a way that all we gotta do is sandbag one doorway which buys us another four feet before the floodwater starts flowing in the windows.

We get water from when the ground is saturated with water from the rain, and it seeps in through cracks in the foundation. The pump I got is supposed to do 1800 gallons per hour, which is way more than can seep in through the cracks per hour.

Now sudbury river flooding is an inconvenience to me, as it closes my normal commute road. (route 20) First at Wayland Center, next to the really poorly chosen location for their police and fire station. there it is backing up a drainage ditch. Another six inches and the river will be flowing over route 20 in wayland where the river crosses. It also closes the side road that is my normal divert route to get over to route 30 and 9, forcing me into a several mile long divert route, having to go west a couple miles before I can then head south and east to head for work.
