Not a good thing.    Looks like the expansion tank in the ceiling sprung a leak above the line where it was plastered into the ceiling.  Water was dripping down from the tank, from the light fixture, from the heat detector in the ceiling, everything.    I shut the water supply to the heating system off, and hooked up a hose and drained off some of the water in the system.   Then I dug out my self-emptying wetvac that I had created a couple years ago and sucked up the worst of the water puddling on the floor.   By the time I had sucked up all the available puddles, and cycled the wet-vac a couple of times, the dripping of the water from the ceiling had slowed down considerably.     So no heat or hot water until it is fixed.

Anyway, I am not a plumber, nor a furnace tech, so I let my parents know that they need to call one out in the morning to come and fix the thing.   I wrote out what valves I had closed and switches I had thrown, and what I observed for the repair tech to read tomorrow.

Then I braced myself for the ordeal I was not looking forward to enduring.  I had gotten dirty, wet and sweaty from my exertions, and needed to get clean.     No hot water.  ugh.   It was one of the fastest showers I've ever taken in my life.   If the furnace isn't fixed tomorrow night, I'm heating up a pot of water and having a sponge bath instead.
