Back home from the folk festival. Back to semi-normality. The festival went well, the flying indians did their thing, their picture made the front page of the paper, above the fold, and there was a two page spread inside devoted to stories about the festival.

But then, the festival was over. Time for the real hard work. All that electrical cabling, portable lighting in the 100+ tents, and the phone lines all had to be taken down and packed away. From the time the festival officially ended at 6:30 pm sunday, I had to have all the electrics picked up and back in our operations compound packed away by monday night. The other electrician on the job, Carl, his plane back to california left at zero-stupid-thirty monday morning.
Picking up, taking down, schleping back to the storage trailer went on until about 11:30 pm for me. that's when I must have stepped on a ground hornet's nest in the dark, and gained myself three bee stings for my trouble. Owww. OOWwww OOOWWWW! Since my brother is puff up and die allergic to bee stings, and I hadn't been stung since I was a teenager, I was a bit concerned. Back to our ops trailer and sat there for 15 minutes waiting for allergic reaction. Nope, all I got was a lot of pain for my trouble.
I called it a night at that point, and found the all night pharmacy, which didn't have any bee sting stuff in it's medical aisles. Didn't have any meat tenderizer in it's food aisles, but they did have baking soda. Bought a box, back to the hotel, and slathered on baking soda paste on the bee stings, which seemed to help. But, I still was not able to get much sleep that night. Ugh, ouch, whimper, whine, complain....
Monday, back at the site, finished getting everything down and back in, with some assistance from others. Turned over to Mary, the master of packing too much stuff into just one trailer, all the WFG stuff, and all the smithsonian gear turned over to the smithsonian people to pack.
Tuesday, out of the hotel last visit to the site to say goodbye and off I drove. Stopped at a supermarket in Maryland to buy my vernors. ( A ginger ale made with real ginger, and my favorite carbonated beverage. Not available in massachusetts) Then since there was an oil change place down the road, and I was due, I got an oil change and headed on north.
made it into deleware when the car started having trouble accellerating out of the toll booths. "Please make it home" I prayed, but it was not to be. then the prayer changed to "Please make it to a repair shop." That didn't happen either. A state trooper gave me the number for a tow service, and they towed me to a nearby transmission repair shop.
The prognosis was grim from the repair guy, so I got my laptop and my tools and a few other things from the car, off to the train station and I took the train home from Wilmington, Delaware. I expect I'm going to have to go back down there in a week or two with a lot of money to get my car back and drive it back home.
SO, there goes all my spare cash and probably will have to dip into the damned credit card to pay for the repair. So I'm going to be a hermit for the next couple of months to pay this back off. *sighs* There, I'm vented now.
