Helped the karma along a bit tonight.
Jun. 7th, 2012 08:22 pmDriving home from work tonight. Roads were all wet from an earlier thunderstorm. Rounding the rotary to make my exit and I hear what I initally think is a motorcycle without a muffler. Nope, It's silver and some sort of supersportscar, with more horsepower under the hood that all the cars my family owns combined. Right behind it, also speeding and passing me on the right is a black one.
The black one cuts in front of another car and the pair of them are now waiting at the traffic light, engines sounding like hideously overpriced sports cars. I get to the light and am able to read the word Maserati on the back of the black one. I'm trying to read the name on the back of the silver one when the light turns green and the pair of them are off like a shot.
Now, I'm not exactly right off the boat, so when I see a pair of these kinds of cars on the road like that, I'm kinda expecting them to be driving like knuckleheads. that is to say, at excessive rates of speed. I mean, the only other reason I can imagine spending that kind of money on a car is to compensate for other shortcomings in ones body image. So, I've already gotten my phone out while I'm stopped at the light, and pulled up the phone dial pad on it.
So, the light turns green. Surprising me not in the least, the pair of them are off like a shot, racing for first place where the two lanes merge back into one about 200 feet past the intersection. I dial 911, and ask the trooper for the town police that we are just entering. Transfer to the dispatcher and I hear him calling it out on the radio. I'm driving along the road, at the speed limit, and those two knuckleheads are going at least 15-20 mph over the limit. Not bothering to go any faster, as there is no room to pass on this section of the road. They are out of my sight in less than a minute.
But I know that the town police station is a mile or two ahead of me, and if these two stay on the main road, they will be driving right past it. And that's what I tell the dispatcher. Looks like they are racing. I get about a mile up the road, and way ahead, around the bend a little bit, I can see where the police station is, and I see red and blue flashing lights for a few moments accelerating away. I cross my fingers, hoping that they catch them breaking the law.
Yup, down the road a bit, almost into the next town, police car has one of them pulled over. YES! People who spend that kind of money on a car, need to donate large amounts of money to the town. In the form of gifts or speeding tickets, it really doesn't matter to me.
