Well, been a while since I posted anything, so here is 2007 so far.
Last weekend was Arisia weekend. OUt at the Hyatt in Cambridge. It was, as expected, rather too small for the convention. I had my membership from volunteer hours last year, so I didn't have to worry about the membership cap. I spent much of my time helping out in the con suite. Arisia's con suite is much more substantial, food wise, than Boskone's. They had a oven in the prep room where they baked cookies and heated up all sorts of foods to feed to the ravening masses.
The amount of soda consumed in the con suite was dramatically increased as well. By saturday noonish, we had used up as much as the whole weekend had used last year. I bought some of the leftovers on sunday. Some for myself, some for the Boskone con suite.
Also on satuday was the annual NEFUR lunchmeat, over at the Fire and Ice resturant in Boston. We had about 13-15 folks show up. With my terrible memory for names, I won't try to name them all here, since I'd end up missing many of them. Same time, same place next year.
Boskone is next month, and I'm running the con suite there. It won't have as much room, but will have more room and more comfy furniture.
In that ugly real world thing, yesterday, there was a student stabbed to death by another student in our high school. Same school I eccaped from 25 years ago. It's been getting lots of news media attention since it is a nice safe wealthy suburban community school, rather than one of those nasty poor inner city school full of drug dealers and so on. (pardon my sarcasm)
I don't know what really to think about it. Actual data is rather thin on the ground. The media is full of emoting reporters who are busy spinning castles of speculation based on what rumors they can catpure from other students or staff. The folks actually doing the investigation are fairly close-mouthed, to their credit. Check Boston dot com and look for Lincoln sudbury regional high school murder. Stories graduate to the pay site after two days.
