Long time readers of this might have recalled the tenants from hell who plagued my parent's life for the past couple of years. We got them evicted, and they left the house a huge mess, and lots of vandalism, holes kicked into walls, grafitti, ruined carpets and damaged floors.

So, as our various schedules permit, we have been working on fixing the house back up these past couple of months. Mostly we were still finding and removing more trash in forgotten closets, and getting estimates from contractors on how much it would cost to repair things, and trying to find buyers for the property.

So sometime between monday and thursday, a pipe froze and burst up on the second floor. Dad went out thursday and found the damage. I thought we had shut the water off already, but somehow this got missed. So, dad shut the water off thursday and saturday we went out to assess the damage and start cleaning up. basically, everything on the right side of the house got soaking wet. Carpeting destroyed. The plaster ceilings have fallen off, wallboards soft and mushy and falling off. There was a floor drain in the basement, and a drive in garage, so the water went down the drain or flowed out under the garage door.

Waiting now for the insurance folks to come out and look at it. *sighs*

Maybe the insurance claim will help repair the place better than you could have afforded before the damage. Well, you can hope. Where is it located again? G is a licensed plumber and heating contractor. At the very least he could tell you fair prices or give you inside reviews on other contractors.

Maybe, but I doubt it. Insurance companies are not in the business to write checks to policy holders unless they have too. I'm not in charge in this, I'm just a more or less hapless viewer. I can state my opinions, but I'm not the decider. My dad has been doing home remodeling for a big chunk of his life, while he does have mild alzhiemers, he isn't stupid or ignorant on anything to do with remodeling or repairing a house. Thanks for the offer though.
