Fun fun fun for my birthday! Next county west of me has intense thunderstorms, dark purple at the center of the weather radar display. NWS has put up tornado warning, meaning that their doppler radar has detected rotation in the storm, or someone on the ground has verified a funnel cloud. Storm track looks like it's gonna be over my head in about twenty-thirty minutes. Looks like it's got the potential to be very interesting here... in the ancient chinese curse meaning of the word.

I'll be unplugging my computer and heading to the basement when the thunderbooms get close.

EDIT: First cell went by. Just got some distant cracks and rumbles, the big cell that was aiming at me fell apart into a couple of smaller one. But the next cell, which is currently about ten miles away, still has some light purple in the center.

In other news, I also just heard that my mother's cousin died this morning. I suppose it was a good thing that mom did make it up there to see him a couple weeks ago. Mom isn't up for another trip to Canada for the funeral.

NEXT EDIT: That one missed me too. On the weather radar it looks like it was only about a mile north of home. All I got was some medium rain and more booms and rumbles on the other side of the hill. Oh well. No mother nature fireworks for me. But there is cake.

Happy birthday! May it just be exciting and not the sort that sends you flying into the air to either be ripped apart or land in some strange land where you'll be blamed for an accidental death of some old woman.

That cell just blew overhead and it was gentle, a few gusts and some high lightning, but overall dark and tame.

Sounds like where we live. Tornado-warning storm headed directly for us, hits the river and splits apart, people 5 miles on either side get hammered, we just get a little wind.

Yum, cake.

Happy birthday!

Sorry about your mother's cousin. Sympathy.

I'm glad none of the thunderboomers came close or otherwise brought any trauma with them to your homestead. Here are some fireworks from the Staten Island Ferry to help fill the gap.

I was waiting and waiting for the storm to hit. I could see the heat lightning, and feel the barometric pressure, but the damned storm never actually broke. Gah! I hate it when they do that.
