I've done my arithmatic, and ended my state of denial. I can't afford to go to any conventions this summer.

Drat.

No Anthrocon for the second year in a row. I'll still be at the three folk festivals, since they cover my expenses. I'll probably drop by readercon, since I won't be out at Anthrocon, mostly to help pack up the NESFA sales table on sunday, since the programming at readercon is pretty much uninteresting to me. Rest of the summer is just going to be work all that I can, trying to get my debt down to a manageable level.

So, my summer events are:
Lowell Folk Festival, july 27-29. Stagecrew, usually at the JFK stage.
American Folk Festival on the Bangor Waterfront,(maine) August 24-26. Festival electrician
68th National Folk Festival, RIchmond, VA, Oct 12-14 festival electrician
Furfright, Halloween weekend. Just attending and relaxing.

Anyone who is in the area of one of these events, I'd like to have visitors. Let me know and I can provide appropriate contact information for the event.

I'd like to do some local gatherings over the summer. I was thinking that the Boston Harbor Islands are a great day trip. Also considering taking the ferry out to Provincetown some saturday. I haven't been out there since I was a teen. picnics or camping at one of the state parks? I'm open to low cost ideas.

That sounds like fun. Can you remind me about a week before, as I have this steel trap memory.... all rusty and stiff, and usaally doesn't operate that well. *laughs* Is there an inexpensive hotel or something nearby? I'll probably make a weekend of it up there. Go around eating fudgesicles and playing tourist. Well, not the part about going up and trying to pet the moose or the bear, while someone else takes pictures of me.

Bangor, I'll probably be heading up on the wednesday before, passing throuigh there around lunchtime. If I follow my usual road trip pattern of planning on leaving around 8am, and actually gettting on the road around 10. What's a Pier Fry? Is it illegal, immoral or fattening?

The reminder is no problem, and some basic directions will be included, however, I checked mapquest.com, ans it seems to have all the required infromation top get you to my place.

As far as tourist activities check out the maine state tourisim web site, they even have a paypal account for people who want to feel like they've paid maine's high taxes without actually visiting :). As for local motels / hotels, There is no affordable nearby. However you're more than welcome to picth a tent if you'd like, I'm over 1000' off the road so no one bothers us out here. Currently I belive two others will be tenting out on saturday night, and staying over for some paint ball at one of the local fields on sunday. Now if you really want to stay at a hotel/motel the Howard Johnson's in portland or south portland would be your best bet. they're both about 35 minutes away, from my place and both are near the turnpike. Unfortunately all of the local rents are near the lake and very expensive.

Hmmmmm...now to answer the next question, what's a Pier Fry? Pier Fries are a devine cullinary gift from "Cholestro" the ancient greek god of artery blockage. Are they illegal? If Richard Simmons gets his way they will be. Are they immoral? Well they have been known to lead to the sin of glountony.
Are they fattening? Ohhh...yes they are fattening. That's why I prefer to eat them in moderation.

Okay, sounds great. I'll have to dig out the tent and see if it still is waterproof. and I think I'll have to get a new air mattress, as the old one, I found out last time I used it, has a slow leak in it. and I threw it out after I was unable to find the leak.
