Car-ARRRRRGH!!!!!
Jun. 17th, 2013 11:47 pmI've been trying to write this for a week already. But when I got partway through, I realized that I was creating an irate screed, and deleted it. This time for sure. I hope.
Remember last december, when my car got hit by another? After I got it back from the repair shop, they casually mentioned that, oh yeah, the front wheel bearings are just about to seize up. So I brought it to the repair shop down the street from my home, where my family has been bringing our cars off and on for about 45 years. 1200 bucks later, they give it back and it seems to be fixed.
So I've been driving it ever since. Until friday afternoon, seventeen days ago. I get out of work, and go to the money machine and get cash. car won't start. Call the repair shop near work and they send out a tow truck. They give me a loaner car that I ended up driving for a week.
The car won't start problem is something with the anti-theft system deciding that I was stealing my own car. So he fixes that, and that ain't cheap. Hundreds of bucks worth of parts. owtch. Then he drops the bombshell... My front wheel bearing is screaming. Huh? I sez. But I had replaced them six months ago. He says he'll go look at them more carefully.
Next day. Yup, both front wheel bearings are full of rust, and the previous repair butcher had also apparently broken the ABS wiring harnesses on both front wheels also. Heat from failing bearings also damaged sundry other components. He's willing to extend me credit, so I have them fixed.
Thursday a couple days ago, I finally get my car back. The bill is for $2016 dollars. Yee flipping ghods! I've bought entire working cars for less than that. I'm trying to be calm about this, but I am really upset. I haven't spoken to the previous repair shop yet, because I don't trust myself not to lose my temper. Maybe this week....
