Back home from festivating.
Aug. 28th, 2012 08:40 pmSpent the last week up in Bangor, Maine, working on www.americanfolkfestival.com Arrived up there sunday evening. Went down to the site, and found that there was another concert going on there that night. I found out later that there was a meeting at the festival office downtown that evening I ought to have been at. checked into the hotel, bought some food and beverages, as the holiday inn had a minifridge and microwave as standard amenities in the rooms. This saved on meal costs, since I could zap stuff from the supermarket instead of resturanting every meal for the entire week.
The festival site, has a all summer tenant with a mountian stage structure there for outdoor concerts they put on all summer. Found out that they were having another concert wednesday evening, so we couldn't put anything out onto that part of the site until thursday morning. got a bunch of attitude from the 'event staff' people about us having to run our golf carts through 'their site' during the day, even though our respective bosses had worked out a deal that we had free access until 4pm, and then we had to go around. too much energy wasted on pointless stupid turf battles.
Prison work crews again. They did lots of heavy labor for us, and best of all, they folllowed directions when shown what we wanted them to do. Unfortunately, they were not allowed to be at the actual festival. wish there was a way we could get them something nicer than the meals we feed them.
Only real whoopsie for me at the festival was when one of the edison outlets in the base of one of the streetlight poles turned out to have been miswired somehow, and was giving us 240 volts instead of the 120 volts that was supposed to be there. Popped a bunch of bulbs and melted one of our strings of lights. city electrical guys said that I was the first person to use that plug since it was installed in the 90s sometime.
It was a series of 10-14 hour days, except for wednesday. slinging heavy power cable around the site. Sore now, back home, back to the day jorb tomorrow morning.
