Rain last night, bright sunny day above freezing all day today. More sun and (relative) warm forecast for tomorrow. I guess that several hundred pounds of snow and ice melted off the roof of the house today. The fifteen foot long icicle hanging from where the gutter downspout used to be fell off. Most of the other icicles along the front and back of the house also fell off. (one of them missing my mom by only a couple of seconds. )

ON the bad side, the driveway is a slick sheet of ice over the packed down snow. I foresee a lot of sand spreading for the remainder of the winter there.

There is still well over a foot of snow and ice on the roof, so we are not out of danger yet, but I'm feeling cautiously optimistic. No big storms in the seven day forecast, and good chance of another day or two of sunny and above freezing later this week.

Over the next couple of days, the home project is going to be setting up a ladder to get onto the back porch and shovel out enough snow so that we can open the regular door out onto the porch again. It is currently held closed by a snowbank about four feet deep. I need to get at the big propane tank on the grill out there. I have found the flamethrower, and it needs a big tank of propane to operate it. Then... Watch out snow and ice. *mad scientist laughter*
