I got out of work tonight, and smelled something burning. This was worrying, as I had discovered that I was way low on transmission fluid this morning. But further careful sniffology identified it as wood. Specifically, the smoke of a large (by massachusetts standards) brush fire on the Blue Hills Reservation. It had been buring over an hour, couple hundred acres so far, and the fire crews had not reached the fire yet, since it was in an area with no roads whatsoever, just narrow footpaths. The smoke was thick enough on 128 that traffic that normally zipped along in excess of the 55mph speed limit was down to about 40.

Bad stuff. I was hoping to do some hiking there this summer.
