Labor day, and our family rabbits.
Sep. 4th, 2006 06:57 pmI bet most of you didn't know we had rabbits at our house. Well, they aren't in the house, they are in the back yard. The live underneath the wreckage of my brother's old trailer, and underneath my parent's motor home that hasn't moved since gas went above $1.50 per gallon.
They are fairly ordinary brown bunnies, twitchy and nervous, but my dad's magic animal field works on them too. I was watching out the back window when I noticed one of them nibbling on some grass out in the middle of the driveway. I called my dad to come and see, but he didn't reply, as he had already go outside to add the corn cobs to the compost pile out back. He walked no more than ten or fifteen feet away from the bunny out and back to the compost pile.
The bunny saw him, I could see him turn his head to watch my dad moving, but otherwise continued to graze on the wildflowers. I, on the other hand, only have to appear in sight or make a noise and all animals run for cover. *sighs* I envy my dad's way of not scaring wild animals. I wish I knew how he did it. He doesn't know, he just says he just keeps on doing what he does and lets the animals be.
He's the one that had a wild fox come over to him when he was eating lunch one day and nibble on his bootlaces. *shakes head* Amazing.
Like everyone else, I heard about Steve Erwin's death today. While I couldn't predict it would have been today, I'm not surprised at all at how he died. He died doing what he loved, and the world is mourning his death. There are a lot worse ways to go.
