It's kind of neat, The rooms are tiny, they look to be about the same size as the hotel room we had in London. Where say would you put something like that for extra rooms at an event at a place like Arisia. You need to take up half a parking lot and there isn't enough parking at Arisia (or most con type events) already, unless you rented one of the large exhibit halls at the convention center next door and put it inside. I also wonder what the licensing/permitting fees and process would be like.
I have many of the same questions. And yeah, I don't see something like this working for a convention in an urban area like arisia. But for things like the folk festival I work each August in bangor, it has potential. Bangor only has three hotels, and they all get booked solid months ahead of time.
This concept would also work well for a national chain of hotels. Basically they could build the fixed hotels for average capacity. Leaving hard pads with utilities hookup points adjacent to existing buildings. Then just bring in extra room capacity as needed for peak demand events.
Oh, that's genius! It's a shame it probably wouldn't work in the urban convention scene (San Diego Comic Con, for example) because of the lack of space. But an event like Burning Man, it'd be hugely beneficial.
Except the hipsters would object to it because it takes away from the event. Uh...
ANYWAY. It's a good idea! I'm not sure how practical, but a good idea!
