today was one of those days. Hot and just humid enough to be uncomfortable, but not enough that I'm willing to burn the couple of MPG to run the AC in the car. ANd it's monday, first day back to work after the weekend. Still a little bit of sleep deficit from my overlong day saturday.

We are still down a driver at work, so I got tagged to drive a delivery. I'm given the most broken down truck to drive, the one with the jury rigged power outlet because the regular outlet is not something our truck manager considers worth spending any repair money on. So I wiggle in the power outlet again and somehow get it in backwards. So I plugs in my GPS and the reverse voltage kills it.

So I have a lovely drive in the big white truck to Worcester for a delivery and revert back to reading a paper map. Unfortunately my paper map reading skills are rusty, especially driving the big white truck through the winding streets of downtown Worcester, lost because the turn I was planning on taking was closed for construction, and the detour took me someplace confusing. Eventually I find the place and pick up the gear and get back to the shop.

And that's where I dropped my phone, and the little crack on the screen grew and grew until I needed a new cell phone. So off to BJs and I buy a new GPS and cell phone. Fortunately it's been over two years, so the new (cheapest) phone they had cost me one cent, and taxes were 18 and change. But still, that was 200 bucks I could have used elsewhere this week.

Now I have to reinput all my info to the phone, as the only thing that got backed up by verizontal was the contact list on the phone. Calendar and stuff all gone. Fortunately I had sucked all the pictures off the phone a few weeks ago.
Annoyances while I get used to new electronic devices that I depend on way more than I thought I did.

Took the phone back to the verizontal kiosk. Contrary to what the salesweasel assured me, nobody makes a hard case for that phone. I'm rough enough on my phones that a hard case is mandatory. They tried to stick me with restocking fees and other horse-shit. WHen they started doing that, I offered to take my business to a different cellular carrier. The bullshit fees then disappeared. But the phone that did have an otterbox hardcase available was a $150 phone. Add in 40 bucks for the otterbox and there went $200 I really didn't want to spend.

ANd now I have to reinput all my life back into the newest phone. Arrrgh.

Also, bought a tomtom GPS. Did have a Garmin. My three year old Garmin has superior features available that the brand new TomTom doesn't even have, or wants additional subscriptions to enable. Ugh. Should have gotten the Garmin.
