While driving to work this morning, I had a life first that was not particularly desirable, but it was interesting. So here it is. I was cruising along the highway, my exit was about a mile ahead, so I'm in the middle lane, and creeping up on a black suvtype vehicle in the right lane.

Unexpectedly, this green pustule starts pushing out the SUV's driver's side window, and a fraction of a second later, the green pustule (which is made of broken glass of the side window) blows out. About a second later, I find myself driving through what can only be described as a cloud of broken glass. Shock!

And a second later, it's all left behind me on the highway. (except for a couple of fragments I later find under my windshield wipers.) As I pull up parallel with the SUV, I look over at the driver. He is looking back at me, mouth wide open, and leaning as far away from the broken window as he can while still driving.

I pull away, as he is slowing down, presumably to pull over to the breakdown lane, and I went on to work. glad that I didn't have my car window blow out for no apparent reason driving along the highway. I did go out at lunchtime to check my car. No flat tires, but a couple of glass fragments removed from under the window wipers.

Yowser.

Glad you're safe. Glad the SUV driver was apparently safe, too.

I once saw a very large truck tire come off what had to have been something big in the way of trucks while driving on I-94 in the Twin Cities. The big vehicle was up on the overpass, and the tire came bouncing down the sloped side, then bounced its way across 4 lanes of heavy traffic before coming to a rest in the median. Each and every bounce was between vehicles. Nobody hit the huge tire; nobody had it come smashing into their windshield or onto any part of their car. It was amazing..

I'm glad I was several cars back, where I could see what the tire was doing while also being well outside its reach. I feel for the drivers who were suddenly faced with a giant tire coming out of nowhere, bouncing once right in front of them, then disappearing again on the rebound. Freaky.

Weird, glad your okay and hopefully the other driver wasn't hurt. I wonder what would cause something like that?

I had a window blowout on the highway once, but it was a blow in. I was passing a dump truck and a chain hanging from the back of the truck swung out and smashed my passenger side window. It was pouring rain that day. By the time I could pull over and stop the truck was long gone. My car was full of glass and rain and I had blood running down my face from the cuts from the flying glass. Luckily, the sunglasses I was wearing kept it from hitting me in the eyes. It was scary.
