A little excitement for the drive home.

I would have posted this wednesday, but LJ was getting hammered then. Driving home wednesday night from the NESFA meeting. I'm almost home, only about 1/4 mile till my street. I am already planning on just what I have to get done before I drop the clothes and get into a nice cool shower.
Then I see bright light around the bend, reflecting off the trees. Hmmm... I sez to myself. I didn't hear about any road construction planned, I wonder what happened? I get a little closer. Hmmm..... That looks a lot more like the flickering of an arc welder than a highway floodlight trailer.
Get a little closer, slowing down and starting to get my first view. Well, it IS an arc. 25 feet up the electric pole. Just then there is a big BANG! and the arc stops with a hail of hot red sparks onto the street. I stop, pull out the cellphone and call it in to 911. They already got it, police on the way.
Wait a minute, traffic backs up. Then I realize. This means that the power is probably out at home now. But if I get right home, I can shower with the hot water that is still in the furnace, and still get a comfortable shower. Police haven't arrived yet, but I don't see anything burning in the darkness, so fuckit. I'm out of here.
Turning around, I head back and get home via a side road. Fortunately, the power that was out, was not on my home. So I had a nice shower and went to bed.
