So, Boskone 52 is now in the past. It was, as expected, exhausting. Once again my minion-fu has failed me, and I ended up doing nearly everything myself. Zev was there most of the time, and was extremely helpful, but due to the sabbath rules he observes, his help on friday and saturday was limited. Geri also covered some of those times, but she had her other obligations at the con. BItter bitter cold on the days I was cooking the eggs made a bunch of them come out funny, with odd textures. Something I didn't discover until I got to the con. Perhaps it's time to experiment with hard boiling the eggs in a coffee pot at the con. But I'm not sure if that will keep up with demand in the mornings.
The new toaster worked. The soda spigots worked, but lack of time precon made the results less than optimal. Still a success though, will do better next year.
ONce again, boskone logistics workers took it upon themselves to rummage through the con suite boxes on the way back to the clubhouse storage and remove the things they didn't think con suite should have. Extremely irritating. Maybe I should go rummaging through the art show boxes and remove the things that I don't think art show should have.
So, my dad is still in the hospital. Still pretty sick, but he is slowly getting better. The NG tube that he was being fed with went bad. Not surprising, his lasted longer than it does on most people. So on friday the 20th, he had the surgery to install a direct feeding tube into his stomach. Not a step in the direction of recovery, but needful to keep him fed while recovering.
The surgery forced a change in his anticoagulant drug, which will allow it to heal bettter, but the new drug has somewhat increased risks requiring closer monitoring and dosing. The neurologist feels that dad is now strong enough for the drugs to treat the potassium antibody thing, which should take care of the encephilitis. Infectious disease doc is considering changing the antibiotic for the Lyme disease, he still has two more weeks of that.
When I visited saturday, he was awake and coherent enough to have short conversations. But he was really tired, and would fall asleep after a couple of minutes of talk.
