Renn Faire
May. 20th, 2012 11:16 pmWent to the Renn Faire down in Guilford, CT today with some friends. robin hood faire is the name of it. The weather was perfect. Blue sunny skies, not too hot or humid, and just enough breeze to keep the flies off and us cooled down, but not enough to raise the dust.
I completely blew my diet. But it was worth it. I did try for the first time in my life, chocolate covered bacon. None of us were quite sold on the concept, but decided that we could split it four ways, and we then could all have at least tried it. It was surprisingly good. I was expecting the flavors to clash, but it did not. The overpowering flavor was the chocolate, then the salt from the bacon, then the actual bacon flavor as more of an aftertaste. Good as a novelty food, but not a meal.
I also got a bit sunburned, as I couldn't find the sunblock before I left this morning, but no biggie. I'll be a bit tender tomorrow, I'm sure, but I will survive.
The archery demo guy was amazing. He was hitting man sized silhouettes nearly every shot. Started at 30 yards, shot an arrow, retreats a few feet, turn and shoot another arrow, repeat cycle until he ran out of his demo field, at 130 yards, then shoot the rest of his arrows. With an unpredictable cross breeze. Wow. He also had on display a siege bow. He said he couldn't shoot it at this faire, as there wasn't a big enough safety zone on the site for it. Johhny Fox the sword swallower was also an act not to miss.
They are there for two more weekends, well worth the 19 bucks. (3 to park, 16 for admission) Food prices are a bit high, but not out of line for a renn faire. There are a few shady spots with picnic tables, but most of the site is out in the sun, so dress accordingly.
