Computer woes and folk festivals.
Aug. 9th, 2006 09:28 pmBeen fairly quiet on the electronic front lately, as my computer has developed a partial keyboard failure. The xcvbnm and a couple other keys have stopped working. Since my laptop is about 6 years old, parts and service are unobtanium. Stuff I've had to type has been typed, then I open up an old email of something, and cut and paste the missing letters into the words on the screen. *bitch, moan, whine, complain, etc. * I'm typing this on one of the computers at the NESFA clubhouse. ( www.nesfa.org Come on by and visit, we got lots of science fiction books in Somerville, MA. ) I'm planning to buy a new computer this coming weekend, when massachusetts is having a sales tax holiday.
Two weekends ago I was stage crewing at the Lowell FOlk Festival. I was on the stage at the JFK plaza downtown. It was hot, but the stage had flush toilets and air conditioning right backstage, which is a wonderful thing on a hot sunny july day in Lowell, on a brick plaza. The music was, as usual, quite enjoyable, and varied. On our stage we had a group from central america doing inca type music, and had some amazing dancers too. The mariachi group had excellent dancers as well. The others were fine, but the memory has faded a bit in the last couple of weeks.
I also did some planning for the American Folk Festival, Bangor, ME, which I will be missing this year. There was planning for the National Folk Festival, which is going to be in Richmond, VA in October, which I will be working on this year. Anyone near Richmond is welcome to come down and visit us at the site. 5th and Tredegar street, look for the trailers up on the helicopter landing pad. I've got several thousand pounds of electrical gear to deploy around the site for the festival. All help cheerfully accepted. *grins*
