Lowell Folk Festival next weekend.
Jul. 23rd, 2005 09:33 amFor several years now I have been working on folk festivals. Usually volunteering, but sometimes I get paid for it too. The next festival for me is the Lowell Folk Festival in Lowell, Massachusetts. I'll be working as a stage crew for the JFK plaza stage all three days this year. If anyone comes to the festival and wants to say hi, just come to the back door of the JFK building and come in asking for me. I may be busy with something at the
moment, but once the acts get changed over, will be free to yak for a bit.
It has been hot and sticky here the last few days, and I'm still engaged in my search for a full time job. Working for a temp company that does AV labor in the area, and work ranges from busy busy busy to dead slow, depending on what shows are in town. Summer is usually pretty slow, so I'm having lots of free time, but little money to do anything with.
In August, I'll be working on the American Folk Festival, in Bangor, Maine, where I'll be one of the site electricians. About 3000 pounds of temporary power cable, distros, and lighting for the tents to put up, and then take down afterwards. October will be the same job for the National Folk Festival in Richmond, Virginia. Since Richmond is a new site, on an island in the river, I'm a bit concerned about how we will get the job done. I expect that we will end up scrambling about at the last minute as per usual. Haven't even seen a site plan yet, let alone finding out where we can get power feeds on the island.
