Boskone reportage.

Tried to post my boskone debrief notes here. It exceeded the 4300 character post limit, by a lot. Sent it to the boskone committee e-mail list and will keep copies on paper for next year.

High points. More couches would be nice. need to sleep more. Need to find a way to reduce the double-dipping contamination problem. Find a way to keep the kids from excess use of the coffee and tea condiments. (kids taking away cups full of just whipped cream was NOT what I intended) Spreads for the breads are needed. reconsider layout of the area to improve traffic flow and fan friendliness of the space.

Much thanks to Rachel, Mali, Johnathan, Ann and others whose names I've lost the pieces of paper I wrote them on.

Thank you for pulling everything together and making the consuite work so well. Huzzah!

And many, many thanks to Vicki S. for the marvelous bread connection. What a win.

A comment that I heard from a couple of people that I think we should probably pay attention to: need gloves for servers and really need to have bread distributed as opposed to letting people cut and grab their own (unless we can monitor and require people using gloves or tongs to grab brad with) and fruit dispensing ... we're lucky nobody turned up with a case of noro-virus, but it's all too easy to have it happen.

I had disposable server gloves, and asked the staff to use them when they were handling food, and prodded them to use them when I noticed them not using them. I also purchased all the food that I could that required little or no preparation. Mostly just opening the container and pouring onto a plate or bowl. No gloves needed for that.
As for cutting the bread, trying to cut bread for all the users would have consumed all available staff time and wanted more. I also was not sure that the whole bread thing was going to happen again, as I had lost the contact info for Vicki. So didn't do a lot of preparation for it. We were encouraging folks to take entire loaves, as we ended up with so much.
The fruit was nearly all prepackaged for people to take away the entire container. I can't force people to take more, and it's hard to monitor the counter all the time at that level of vigilance.
