Semi-productive weekend...
May. 1st, 2011 10:27 pmHurray hurray!
The first of May.
Outdoor ****ing begins today!
Now that I've gotten that out of the way. I hope all my friends who celebrate Easter, Passover and May Day had a good celebration. This week, I celebrated half-price easter candy week by going to the store on tuesday and destroying my diet.
This weekend had nice weather, so got in some quality time with the boom lift working on the back of the house. Scraped a lot of peeling paint off the house. Recaulked a lot of seams, and recaulked all the windows on the second floor that had all their glaizers putty falling out. Gotta go buy a piece of glass to replace one broken pane. Also removed and replaced a couple of rotted clapboards on the second floor back of the house. I would have put a caot of primer on the bare wood that replaced the rotten wood on the edge of the roof, but the primer is now in a puddle on the basement floor when the can was unintentionally tipped over. gonna leave it to harden up a day or two and then scrape the mess up in one large chunk rather than trying to mop up wet paint from a concrete floor.
I'll ask my boss for a day or two of vacation time this week, so I can do more work on the house with the boom lift. It's only here for one more week. after that, it all ladder work.
next is replacing the corner boards on the back corner of the house. Patching the hole in the cupula on the top of the barn. Might try scraping and priming it, but my confidence is not high on that. Got a couple of rotten clapboards on the side of the house to replace.
Scraping all the side of the house and the rest of the back of the house to prepare for painting. gonna get the paint sprayer out and spray the side and back of the house before the boom lift goes away. Especially the very high up areas. Climbing a 40 foot ladder to paint by hand would just suck. Did it once when when I was in high school, and I am worse shape now.
Front corner of the house has a couple of rotten boards, need to pull those off and replace with good wood. Also fix the dryer vent, which I forgot to get to this weekend.
