Yesterday, my mom went in with my dad to have a skin cancer removed. I forget the name, but it was the surgery where the remove the lesion plus a bit, then take another layer of tissue out which goes immediately to the lab to be tested for cancer cells. If yes, remove some more. Repeat until you run out of cancer or run out of soft tissue. We've all been a bit worried about it, mom is nearly eighty, after all.
Anyway, the first bite got it all. this is good, meaning the cancer hadn't spread much. It goes off to pathalogy to find out if it is a primary or secondary lesion. (secondary lesion means the cancer spread to there from someplace else.)
After the surgery, they fed my parents some half stale turkey sammiches, then sent them off to the plastic surgery clinic to have the hole in her face from the surgery repaired. Surprising the plastic surgeon, mom's skin was flexible enough to be stretched to cover the opening, and it got superglued
together to heal up. Total time away from home about ten hours.
I'm feeling quite a lot better, things are looking quite good. My parents will be celebrating their golden wedding anniversry in August, so things are on track for that now.

Boskone is in another week, and I'm running the convention hospitality suite. yesterday I rented couches. I'm going to BJ's on saturday to buy around a thousand bucks worth of soda pop, juice, cups, munchies and so on. All the non-perishable stuff. How I'm going to transport it all to the hotel in my wheezy old station wagon is going to be, as they say, an interesting challenge. Friday morning the 17th we buy perishables. Milk, cream, fruit, and so on.

I'm looking for assistance still, although I have two former worldcon chairs who have indicated they will help out some, which is a bit of an embarrassment of riches. I have a free membership to the convention I can transfer to this helper, and can offer crash space in my hotel room, if you don't mind my snoring.

In other news....

I wish to direct people's attention to Ursula Vernon's live journal, and the wonderful new idea she came up with as a possible shared world setting. The fantasy world's brothel. Sort of like Lady Callahan's place, but set in an enchanted forest, and humans are a real minority. Great stuff so far, and this is a place I want to write a story or three about... They rest of her stuff, Digger and so on, are also wonderfuly wierd, creative and funny.

I have to go figure out how to make a LJ link to the entry and come back here and edit it in. http://www.livejournal.com/users/ursulav/
