Uber fail.

Well, I had my first Uber ride this weekend. One of the party members made the reservation, estimate was for twenty something dollars to get from the Hyatt pyramid to Harvard square, maybe a mile as the crow flies. (Rather longer on the wacky streets of Cambridge) The ride itself was fine. The driver didn't take the shortest route, but I saw that he was just following his GPS, which isn't his fault the GPS is not as good at picking an optimum route as someone familiar with the area was.

Had a lovely dinner, and then we were getting ready to call for a return ride, and the person found that Uber had charged $53 for the ride. Double the estimated cost. This was upsetting, and took a real taxi back to the hotel. Real taxi used an optimum route, was faster, and only had $12.50 on the meter when we arrived. So even with the tip, uber charged us triple the fare for the same trip.

I'm never using Uber again. As far as I'm concerned, they blew it big time.
